New Anniversaries

As 2008 is rapidly moving into 2009, the 90th Anniversary of the Great War begins to fade into the same history as the war itself. But next year it is 95 years since Mons, and only five years to the centenary of the outbreak of the war. However, next year also sees another major landmark in remembering another war – the Second World War.  September will see 70 years since the start of WW2, and for one who remembers all the 70th Anniversaries of the Great War, it not only makes me feel old, but indicates the ever important reason to be recording the memories of those who fought and died in the Second Great War. Whether the 70th anniversary of WW2 will generate as much media interest as this year did for WW1 remains to be seen.
