York NVA Normandy Trip 2012

York NVA 2012, a set on Flickr.

I’ve just returned from a visit to Normandy for the 68th Anniversary of D-Day with the York Branch of the Normandy Veterans Association. As always it was a special trip being with the veterans, but has it’s sadness as several veterans have died since the last trip.

Although it wasn’t a major anniversary as usual there were a lot of people about and it was good to meet and speak to other veterans who were over.

On the morning of the 6th June we held our own service of remembrance with members of the Surrey NVA who happened to be at Ryes War Cemetery when we arrived; basked in Normandy sunshine we recalled those epic events of 68 years ago.
